Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive nonionic viscous agent having a high performance and capable of imparting a dispersing property to paper fibers even on adding a cationic polymer or cationic agent in papermaking of e.g. tissue paper, towel paper, etc., and also improving the stability and production efficiency of the papermaking in a good efficiency. SOLUTION: This nonionic papermaking viscous agent is characterized by containing a polyethylene oxide and an acrylamide-based nonionic (co)polymer satisfying the following viscosity condition. (The viscosity condition) The viscosity of an aqueous solution of common salt containing the acrylamide-based nonionic (co)polymer and 4 mass % common salt is higher than that of a pure water solution having the same concentration of the acrylamide-based nonionic (co)polymer with the concentration of the above aqueous solution of the common salt.
