Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle detection device which enables a user to be informed of positions of vehicles running near his or her vehicle. SOLUTION: A periphery detection device 5 maps locations indicated by preceding vehicle information acquired from a radar device 2 and preceding vehicle information acquired from an inter-vehicle communication device 31, in a mapping area based on the user's vehicle. With respect to a plurality of vehicle locations between which distances are shorter than a prescribed distance and degrees of congruence of going directions are high, out of mapped vehicle locations, reliabilities of information indicating the vehicle locations are calculated, and vehicle locations are specified in accordance with the reliabilities. A navigation ECU 44 displays vehicles running near the user's vehicle on a display device 43 to inform the user on the basis of vehicle location information generated from the specification result.
