Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set an area allowed on a front side glass of a car enabling the impression of characters such as a vehicle identification number, easily and accurately. SOLUTION: The area setting ruler 1 is set in the rear bottom corner of a front side glass of a car to set an area in which characters such as a vehicle identification number are impressed on a glass surface. The ruler 1 comprises a horizontal pressing section 3 which is positioned along a seal bottom edge section 11a of the glass surface, a rectangular removed section 6 formed by removing an area defined by a vertical line having a predetermined length perpendicular to one end of the horizontal pressing section 3 and a horizontal line having a predetermined length, and an edge section 7 which is formed at the tip of a horizonal section 5 of the rectangular removed section 6 and which abuts on a seal side edge section 11b of the glass surface. The dimension of a vertical section 4 of the rectangular removed section 6 is not longer than 100mm, while the dimension of the horizontal section 5 thereof is not longer than 125mm.
