Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for restraining generation of white smoke after sulfur poisoning regeneration control. SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine, discharges the sulfur content from a NOx storage agent, by performing the sulfur poisoning regeneration control (Step 103) including addition of fuel or a reducing agent into an exhaust passage on the upstream side of an exhaust emission control means, when discharging the sulfur content from the NOx storage agent, by arranging the exhaust emission control means including the NOx storage agent in the exhaust passage. The exhaust emission control device is provided for returning to ordinary control, after performing sulfur poisoning post-regeneration temperature control (Step 109) for a predetermined time, for restraining a temperature rise, maintenance or reduction of a part up to reaching the exhaust emission control means from the vicinity of an adding position of the fuel among the exhaust passage, in a state of stopping addition of the fuel, when completing the sulfur poisoning regeneration control or when stopped before completion (Step 107).
