Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the refresh operation of a memory cell even during a page cycle in a semiconductor device which needs a refresh operation for holding data. SOLUTION: During page reading, the data of a memory cell selected by a row address is read to main amplifiers MA0 to MA(8n-1) through bit line pairs (BL0, /BL0) to (BL(8n-1)), /BL(8n-1), sense amplifiers SA0 to SA(8n-1), and data line pairs (DL0, /DL0) to (DL(8n-1)), /DL(8n-1). Then, connection transistors CU and CL are operated OFF while the data of the main amplifiers are output to the outside, the main amplifiers and the memory cells MC are disconnected from each other, and the precharge operations of the memory cells MC are enabled. During page writing, the precharge operations of the memory cells MC are enabled while input data are written in the main amplifiers from the outside. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
