Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recorder in which cost reduction is realized by high speed processing and optimization of a print buffer. SOLUTION: The recorder receives image data from an external unit, e.g. a host computer, as image data and prints the image data. 1 bit binary data of C, M, Y and K or multiple-valued data of Y, M, C and K is inptted, as the image data, from the host computer wherein the 1 bit binary data and the multiple-valued data are the image data generated in the raster direction. The recorder has a storing section for storing raster image data, and dot count hardware for determining the number of bits of the image data when raster data is read out from the storage section and converted horizontally/vertically into column data. In dot count processing of the binary data or multiple-valued data, dot count is performed under the state of multiple-valued data both for the binary data and multiple-valued data.
