Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new ceramide derivative having improved solubility and membrane-permeability; and to provide a new anticancer agent bringing little side effect by using the ceramide derivative obtained thus. SOLUTION: The new ceramide derivative is represented by formulas (1) to (4). Especially, N-lactylsphingosine of formula (1) or (2) exhibits cell death-inducing activities on a cancer cell, and is useful as the anticancer agent.
