PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium carrying device dispensing with change in the number of drive pulses of a carrying roller depending on the thickness and type of a recording medium, capable of performing high-precision carrying amount control by enabling carriage equal to or less than resolution of a driving motor. SOLUTION: The recording medium carrying device is provided with a drive roller 1, at least a surface of which is composed of an elastic body, a pressing roller 2 arranged to face the drive roller 1, making pressing force act on the drive roller 1, and a driving means rotating the drive roller 1, and the recording medium P is pinched between the drive roller 1 and the pressing roller 2 to be carried. The recording medium carrying device is also provided with a pressing force adjusting means 4 adjusting the pressing force of the pressing roller 2, and a carrying amount control means controlling the pressing force adjusting means 4 to adjust the pressing force of the pressing roller 2 and vary a carrying amount of the recording medium P.
