Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting method of a fuel cell system shortening starting time while the function of the fuel cell system having a system shut-off valve comprising a pilot-operated shut-off valve is protected. SOLUTION: The fuel cell system is equipped with a hydrogen supply passage 7 circulatably connecting a high pressure hydrogen tank 5 and an anode of a fuel cell 1, circulatably connecting an air compressor 2 and a cathode of the fuel cell 1, and a pilot-operated system shut-off valve 9 having a guiding passage arranged on the hydrogen supply passage 7 and guiding upstream hydrogen gas of a valve before opening operation of the built-in valve, and opening the valve when the upstream pressure of the valve becomes almost the same as the downstream pressure. In the starting method of the fuel cell system, a pressure sensor 15 detecting anode pressure is installed, hydrogen gas from the high pressure sensor tank 15 is guided to the system shut-off valve 9, and after a valve opening command is sent, air supply from an air compressor to the cathode is started in timing set in accordance with a detected value of the pressure sensor 15, and then power generation with the fuel cell 1 is started.
