Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method and a controller by which a rectifier having a rectifying circuit using a thyristor can be controlled properly even in case that the timing of zero cross is disordered due to occurrence of a large change in the waveform of AC power voltage. SOLUTION: The thyristor is effectively controlled with a thyristor ignition controller 30. The controller is constituted of a zero cross detection means 31 for detecting the zero cross of input voltage with the rectifier 10 which has a rectifying circuit where a thyristor is used for one part of a rectifying element in a controller 20; a zero cross cycle computing means 32 for computing the zero cross cycle, based on the zero cross detection value of the above zero cross detection means 31; a cycle propriety judging means 33 for judging whether the above computed zero cross cycle is within a tolerable range or not; a stability judging means 34 for judging the stability of input voltage, based on the judgment results of the above cycle propriety judging means 33; and an ignition control means 35 for controlling the ignition of the thyristor, based on the judgment results of the above stability judging means 34.
