Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmissive liquid crystal display device which prevents gray scale inversion in a downward direction on a liquid crystal panel, in which viewing angle characteristics are significantly improved and in which reflection of external light is prevented. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a backlight 201, an anisotropic scattering film 202 with scattering characteristics varying corresponding to an incident angle, a liquid crystal cell 211 with a liquid crystal interposed between two opposed substrates, polarizing plates 203, 210 respectively disposed on the backlight 201 side and on the viewer's side of the liquid crystal cell and at least a layer of a light diffusion film 220 on the viewer's side of the liquid crystal cell 211 wherein a difference (H(θ)-H(O)) between haze H(θ) of the anisotropic scattering film 202 toward incident light at a gray scale inversion angle θ of the liquid crystal cell 211 and haze H(O) of the anisotropic scattering film 202 toward incident light from the normal direction is ≥5% and ≤100% and further the anisotropic scattering film 202 is disposed between the backlight 201 and the liquid crystal cell 211.
