Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal melting and holding furnace capable of preventing the lowering of the temperature of a molten metal in a discharged molten metal chamber caused by the flowing of the molten metal of a low temperature into the discharged molten metal chamber having an intake port. SOLUTION: This metal melting and holding furnace 1 is provided with a melting chamber 5 for melting a metallic material 3, a holding chamber 9 for holding the molten metal obtained by melting the metallic material 3 at a specific high temperature, and a discharged molten metal chamber 13 comprising the intake port 11 for taking out the molten metal. This metal melting and holding furnace is provided with a weir wall 39 for inhibiting the flowing-out of the molten metal of low temperature at a lower layer part in the holding chamber 9 into the discharged molten metal chamber 13, and a partitioning wall 35 between the holding chamber 9 and the discharged molten metal chamber 11 is provided with a vertically movable partition 45 capable of being come in and out into the molten metal at its lower end part. A weir mechanism 25 is provided between the melting chamber 5 and the holding chamber 9 for preventing the flowing-in of unmelted material into the holding chamber 9. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
