Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simply structured fluorescence display to be thinnable. SOLUTION: During a period wherein a first electrode 503 has a negative voltage and a second electrode 504 is driven to a positive voltage, electrons are discharged from a carbon material in a phosphor layer 203 formed on a first electrode 503, and the phosphor layer 203 formed on the second electrode 504, which faces the carbon material to discharge the electrons, emits light. During a period wherein the first electrode 503 has a positive voltage and the second electrode 504 is driven to a negative voltage, the electrons are discharged from the carbon material in the phosphor layer 203 formed on the second electrode 504, and the phosphor layer 203 formed on the first electrode 503 to discharge the electrons emits light.
