PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device that enables the background image etc., of a display panel to be seen through and also enables the image to be viewed from both rear and front of the display panel and can impart a skeleton feeling. SOLUTION: This display device 2 has the display panel 4 which performs switching control over transmission and scattering of the light passing through the pixels by turning on and off an electric field, pixel by pixel, and a transparent light transmission plate 6 which can guide light from a light source 10 to the display panel side and further transmit the light, transmitted from the front to the rear of the display panel 4, to the rear. The light transmission plate 6 guides the light from a light source 8 to the side of the display panel 4 at a specified deviation angle θ from a nearly vertical normal direction to a light projection surface of the light transmission plate 6.
