Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an onboard navigation system capable of performing proper voice-guiding without the confusion of a driver even when a guiding pathway is in a narrow angle branch intersection and also an intersection other than an object to be guided exists at the immediately proximal side thereof, and to provide the navigation method therefor. SOLUTION: A guide to the narrow angle branch intersection is switched from a traffic lane guide to a direction guide when a branch identifying section 36 contained in a navigation controller 12 recognizes the narrow angle branch intersection, and also an intersection recognizing section 40 detects an intersection having a dedicated lane between the narrow angle branch intersection and a final guiding point calculated by a guiding point calculating section 38.
