Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized and low-cost oscillator which enables its oscillation start time to be shortened by adding a simple circuit. SOLUTION: The oscillator is provided with: a power application detection means for detecting application of an external power supply and providing an output of a power application detection signal; a first oscillation circuit for outputting a clock signal of a prescribed frequency; a second oscillation circuit for outputting the clock signal of the prescribed frequency and more slowly starts its oscillation than the first oscillation circuit does; a start promote means that is started by the power application detection signal, generates an oscillation start promote signal with an output signal from the first oscillation circuit and gives the oscillation start promote signal to the second oscillation circuit; and a start detection means for generating a start detection section with an output signal from the second oscillation circuit receiving the oscillation start promote signal and stopping the oscillation start promote signal with the start detection signal.
