Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform internal, automatic media sort and random access queueing of media in a media drive assembly arranged in an array of a media storage receptacle. SOLUTION: Each of a plurality of magazines 42 holds many optical disks on a caddie 48. A two-dimensional array 30 of a media receptacle 31 receives the magazine for storage. A plurality of media drives 43 are arranged in the two-dimensional array. Each of the media drives 43 has a plurality of drive ports for receiving the media. Some of the drive ports receive the magazine, while other drive ports receive the media removed from the magazine. Transport of the media from the drive port to a reproduction position of a media reproduction device 55 in the media drive 43 and transport of the media from the reproduction position to the drive port are random access processes.
