Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus with high track density that prevents the erasure of recorded data caused by erasing an adjacent track and makes small the lowering of a data transfer speed as much as possible. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus comprises a recording medium 8; and a head 9 for recording and reproducing data to and from each sector on the recording medium 8. In the magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus, a write inhibit slice setting circuit 6 is provided. The write inhibit slice setting circuit 6 sets a write inhibit slice for each sector, based on the recording state of each sector on the record medium 8 when the data are recorded on the recording medium 8.
