Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolyester resin and a copolyester resin composition excellent in gas barrier properties, transparency and heat resistance, and to provide a method for producing the copolyester. SOLUTION: The copolyester resin comprises (A) a dicarboxylic acid component unit comprising 20-100 mol% of an isophthalic acid component and 80-0 mol% of a terephthalic acid component, and (B) a diol component unit comprising 5-90 mol% of a hydroxyalkyl ether comprising a compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R1 is hydrogen or a 1-3C alkyl group, and n is an integer of 1-5) and a compound represented by formula (2) (wherein R1 is hydrogen or a 1-3C alkyl group, and n is an integer of 1-5) and 95-10 mol% of ethylene glycol.
