PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an indicating instrument for a vehicle having a pointer illuminating function capable of relieving a discomfort caused by leaked light. SOLUTION: This indicating instrument comprises a dial 11 having an opening 19, the pointer 14 made out of a colored material having translucency, and a light shielding cap 13. The pointer 14 has a base part 22 connected to a rotating shaft 16a penetrated through the opening 19, and a pointer part 23 extended from a side of the base part onto a surface of the dial 11, and the light for illumination is guided from a back side of the dial 11 to the base part 22. The cap 13 is provided with a slit 13a opened at its lower edge to insert the pointer part 23, and the cap 13 is mounted on the base part 22 in a state of covering the base part 22 of the pointer 14 and an opening edge part 19a of the dial 14.
