PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and inexpensive fault diagnostic device for a driving circuit which diagnoses by a single diagnostic circuit, and also to provide its fault diagnostic method. SOLUTION: This fault diagnostic device 2' for two driving circuits 11, 11 of a control device 1' equipped with a microcomputer 13 and at least one driving circuit 11 comprising main driving circuits 14, 14 having each one end connected to the microcomputer 13 and each other end connected to output lines 17, 17 of actuators 12, 12, and chopping clamp circuits 15, 15 having each one end connected to a current return line 18 of the actuators 12, 12 and each other end connected to the output lines 17, 17, is equipped with a clamp voltage determination circuit 16 having one end connected to the microcomputer 13 and the other end connected to the main driving circuits 14, 14.
