Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a defrosting operation time by efficiently operating a vapor compression type refrigerating machine. SOLUTION: This vapor compression type refrigerating machine comprises a bypass passage 6 for guiding a high-pressure refrigerant discharged from a compressor 1 to an evaporator 4, and a second expansion valve 5 for decompressing the high-pressure refrigerant flowing out from the evaporator 4, and supplying the same to a suction side of the compressor 1 in a defrosting operation for guiding the high-pressure refrigerant discharged from the compressor 1 to the evaporator 4 through the bypass passage 6. As a hot gas discharged from the compressor 1 is introduced to the evaporator 4 without being decompressed while keeping a high temperature, and the defrosting operation can be completed in a short time, the original operation of the vapor compression type refrigerating machine such as evaporating the refrigerant in the evaporator 4 can be performed for a long time.
