Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide transmission equipment, an idle node number search method and a topology data generation method enabling simplified maintenance and operation with reduced man-hour and improved speed of an annular network. SOLUTION: Transmission equipment 10a connected to an annular network includes a packet generation and transmission means for generating and transmitting a packet for setting node numbers assigned to other transmission equipment 10b-10f to these other transmission equipment 10b-10f, and a node number search means for receiving the packet circulated in the annular network and for searching for an idle node number using the node numbers set by the other transmission equipment 10b-10f and read out from the received packet.
