Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quicken the processing speed of fingerprint collation, and to reduce data quantity. SOLUTION: This CPU detects a central point C, branch points P1 to P8 and edge points Q1 to Q10 of a fingerprint image, and connects the branch point P1 which is the most adjacent to the central point C with two branch points P2 and P3 which are adjacent to the branch point P1 to prepare a triangle W1, and stores an area S1 of the triangle and the length of the three sides of the triangle in a flash memory. Also, the CPU calculates the positions of the branch point P1 and the edge point Q1 which is adjacent to the branch point P1, the branch point P2 and the edge point Q3 which is adjacent to the branch point P2, the branch point P3 and the edge point Q3 which is adjacent to the branch point P3, and stores those positions as a registration template in the flash memory. At the time of collation, the CPU decides whether or not the area and the length of the sides of the triangle and the positions of the edge points calculated in the same way from the collation image are matched with the registration template. This invention may be applied to a fingerprint collating device. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
