Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for controlling the fuel injection quantity of an internal combustion engine capable of keeping the air-fuel ratio constant by quickly and correctly correcting excess or shortage in the quantity of supplied fuel based on an estimated error of a predicted intake-air quantity. SOLUTION: The fuel injection quantity control device predicts an intake-air quantity KLfwd for the current intake stroke of a specific cylinder based on predicted throttle valve travel to find a necessary fuel quantity presumed before correction based thereon. On the other hand, the device calculates an actual intake-air quantity KLact based on the actual throttle valve travel for the preceding intake stroke to find an actual necessary fuel quantity Fcact based thereon, and an actual intake-fuel quantity Fcest based on an actual fuel injection quantity fi (k-1) for the preceding intake stroke and a fuel behavior forward model, corrects the necessary fuel quantity predicted before correction Fcfwdb (k) based on a difference Fcerr (k) between the actually necessary fuel quantity Fcact and an actual intake-fuel quantity Fcest to find a regularly predicted necessary fuel quantity Fcfwd (k), and find a current fuel injection quantity fi (k) by way of a fuel behavior reverse model to intake the fuel as much as the regularly predicted necessary fuel quantity Fcfwd (k).
