Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator system which is safely driven even in power failure by using a matrix converter. SOLUTION: When power failure is detected, a brake of an elevator is applied, and a matrix converter is stopped. Next, the power is recovered to the elevator. In a first example of the power recovery, after checking that an elevator car is stopped, the input of the matrix converter is switched from the commercial power supply to a battery power supply, and the elevator is operated to a nearest floor by using the battery power supply. In a second example of the power recovery, the power recovery is continuously checked even the elevator car is decelerated, and if the power is recovered, the elevator is operated by the commercial power supply. If the power is not recovered, deceleration is continued before the elevator car speed reaches a reference value or under, and when the speed reaches the reference value or under, the elevator is operated to a nearest floor by using the battery power supply.
