Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable optical disk unit in which the heat generated in a pickup is absorbed and the temperature of a semiconductor laser mounted on the optical pickup is restricted to an operation guarantee temperature or lower thereby preventing performance deterioration, life degradation and erroneous operations of the unit. SOLUTION: In the optical disk unit provided with an optical pickup 7 on which a light emitting element 72 for emitting a laser beam, a laser drive circuit for driving the light emitting element 72 and an optical component for guiding the laser beam to a disk are mounted, a latent heat storing material 77b is disposed in the optical pickup 7.
