Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant detector for a vehicle for performing weight determination with high accuracy even in a no-load region where hysteresis tends to remain and preventing erroneous determination due to synergistic action of hysteresis and sensor deterioration. SOLUTION: This occupant detector for a vehicle is equipped with a weight measuring means using a strain gage between a seat and a floor for determining whether an occupant is present or not by comparing a measured weight value obtained by the measuring means with a threshold. This detector is characterized by being equipped with a fluctuation range detection means S7 for detecting the range of fluctuation in weight values W measured by the measuring means and a correction means S8 for negatively correcting weight values measured by the measuring means when the range of fluctuation is equal to or less than a prescribed value.
