PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault information collecting apparatus and a fault information collecting method for recording many more fault information items without the need of increasing the capacity of a physical memory even when new fault information is increased to enhance the function and to cope with a fault. SOLUTION: The fault information collecting apparatus registers in advance combinations of fault information items effective to fault analysis on the occurrence of the fault information comprising related information such as a fault code, a fault object, a cause to the fault, and a date and time, decides whether or not fault information is registered by using the registered fault information, detects the fault information effective to the fault analysis, and records the fault information to a memory section 17 which is referenced at investigation of a fault. Further, the fault information collecting apparatus converts the fault information into history information in order to leave a history of the fault information discriminated not to be the effective fault information to the fault analysis and records the history information to the memory section 17 whose history information is referenced at fault investigation.
