Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pencil lead having excellent balance between flexural strength and density. SOLUTION: The pencil lead is obtained by carrying out kneading, extrusion molding into a thin wire shape, and heat treatment to a firing temperature. The pore diameter distribution of the pencil lead is regulated so that ≥80% pores may have diameters within a range of 0.005-0.1 μm, and the ratio (ratio of specific surface areas: S1/S2) of a value (S1) of the specific surface area measured by a CI method based on a multilayer adsorption theory to a value (S2) of the specific surface area by a BET method based on a monolayer molecule adsorption theory is 0.7-1.3.
