Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance thermal head in which a conductive layer can be protected against corrosion effectively over a long term, and to provide a thermal printer employing it. SOLUTION: A large number of heating resistors 3 and a conductive layer 4 principally comprising aluminum are applied to the upper surface of a substrate 1 and coated with a protective layer 5. In such a thermal head, the conductive layer 4 exposed from a defect in the protective layer 5 is coated with an insulating film 6 of aluminum oxide and then the insulating film 6 and the protective layer 5 are coated with a wear resistant layer 7.
