Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording medium which has excellent ink absorbability when the medium is printed by an ink jet printer, which has high glossiness and image sharpness equivalent to those of a silver salt photograph without dust deposit of a coating layer and which further improves productivity of a coating step by suppressing an amount of coating of an ink acceptive aqueous coating layer at a low cost. SOLUTION: This ink jet recording medium includes a hydrophilic resin composition layer melt extrusion coated on a support and containing inorganic fine particles having a mean particle size of primary particles of 30 nm or less and a hydrophilic thermoplastic resin, and an ink accepting layer made of an aqueous coating layer provided on the composition layer. The resin layer preferably contains the inorganic fine particles of 20-80 mass%, and an ethylenevinyl alcohol copolymer having an ethylene copolymer ratio of 40 mol% or less.
