Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, capable of separately and independently adjusting the oxygen storage amount of a plurality of catalysts arranged in series in an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine to be suitable amount. SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device calculates the oxygen storage amount of each of first and second catalysts 53, 54; feedback-controls air/reducing gas injection device 55 so as to make each oxygen storage amount agree with a corresponding target oxygen storage amount; and separately and independently injects either one of air boosted by an air pump 55b and boosted reducing gas including a much reducing agent generated after the boosted air passes through a charcoal canister 55a, an exhaust passage upstream to the first catalyst 53, and an exhaust passage downstream to the first catalyst 35 and upstream to the second catalyst 54 only by a specified amount. Therefore, each oxygen storage amount of each catalyst can be separately and independently adjusted to be a target oxygen storage amount right away, and the discharging amount of emission can be effectively reduced.
