Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for playing-back, a recording medium, and a program which improve the operability of image editing. SOLUTION: A disk wherein main line moving images and low-resolution images having resolutions reduced are recorded is inserted to a disk drive device 1. When a prescribed low-resolution image file is requested from a nonlinear editor 3, the disk drive device 1 reads out the requested prescribed low-resolution image file from a disk and transmits it to the nonlinear editor 3 and reads out main line moving image data corresponding to low-resolution images transmitted to the nonlinear editor from the disk and outputs it to a monitor 4. A person who edits images utilizes low-resolution images to edit images by the nonlinear editor 3 while confirming high-resolution main line moving images displayed on the monitor 4. This system is applicable to a player which plays back recording media where first moving images and second moving images obtained by reducing resolutions of the first moving images are recorded.
