Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a package for optical communication by which a cylindrical lens is simply and easily aligned with the axial line of a laser beam and is prevented from being cracked or ruptured. SOLUTION: The package for optical communication 10 has metallic substrate 17 where a cavity part 16 for mounting a semiconductor element for optical communication is provided, a pedestal part 14 arranged between an optical fiber member bonded to a through-hole 23 provided on the side surface part of the substrate 17 and the installation part of the semiconductor element and provided on the basis of the cavity part 16, and the cylindrical lens 13 bonded to the pedestal part 14. The package 10 has a recess 26 consisting of a rectangular groove on which the cylindrical lens 13 is placed in a state where it lies on its side on the upper surface part 25 of the pedestal part 14, and protrusions 27 between which the side surface of the center part of the lens 13 is held on the opposed upper surface parts 25 in the center part in the longitudinal direction of the upper surface part 25 of the outer periphery of the recess 26.
