PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a system and method for monitoring a transmission network by which a high-quality OAM service can be provided with a small number of monitoring devices regardless of the number of systems provided with the OAM service. SOLUTION: Optical transmission devices 21-2n are connected to a monitoring device 1 by a LAN switch 3. By utilizing the VLAN trunking function of the switch 3, VLANs 1-3 respectively corresponding to double rings A-Z are formed in the network. Then, by performing data transfer between the double rings A-Z and a monitoring device 1 through the VLANs 1-3, data sent from a certain double ring to the monitoring device 1 and containing broadcast data, such as the LIPS, halo, etc., are prevented from entering into other double rings.
