Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus preventing wasteful toner consumption and a deterioration in image density and image quality by removing the deteriorated toner on a developer carrier from the developing device under conditions in which toner can be easily deteriorated, that is, when the consumed quantity of the toner is small relative to the number of rotation of the image carrier. SOLUTION: The developer which is electrified to polarity reverse to the specified polarity of the developer is forcibly consumed in a non image range of the image carrier based on a detected value of the quantity of the developer consumption.
