PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevating device capable of securely ascending/descending at low cost and corresponding to the will and work pace of an operator, without installing a detector for detecting placing of an article in an elevating body. SOLUTION: This elevating device provided with the elevating body that can vertically move along a strut 2 standingly mounted on a base stand 1 and a driver 4 that drives the elevating body 3 comprises the detector 5 that detects position of the elevating body 3 and a controller 6 that controls ascending and descending on the basis of detected result of the detector 5. The device is provided with a timer device 7 that detects arrival of the elevating body 3 to an upper limit set position H and starts operation, and a sole ascending/descending switch 8 for operating ascending and descending. The controller of the elevating device is constituted so as to control to descend the elevating body 3 after passing the set time period of the timer device 7, and to forcedly descend the elevating body 3 prior to control of descending by the timer device 7 when the ascending/descending switch 8 is operated during operation of the timer device 7.
