Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mount a cam follower without damaging a raceway surface even if quenching is applied to a whole surface of a support shaft in the cam follower assembled to a valve system of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The support shaft 3 is made of a steel in which quenching is applied to a whole surface and is provided with: a support shaft body 31; and a first annular calking part 33a axially projected along an outer peripheral edge of an axial end surface of the support body 31. An inner diameter of a first support mounting hole 12 is formed larger than an outer diameter of the support shaft body 31 and a first chamfered part 14 is formed on an inner peripheral surface positioned at the axial outside. The first calking part 33a is inserted to the first support shaft mounting hole 12 such that the axial inner side end is positioned at the same plane as an axial inner side end of the first chamfered part 14 or is positioned at an axial inside. The support shaft 3 is laid between both side wall parts 7, 8 by calking the first calking part 33a to the inner peripheral surface of the first chamfered part 14. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
