Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized illumination apparatus capable of elongating the life thereof. SOLUTION: The illumination apparatus comprises a lighting fitting body 2, in which an electrodeless discharge lamp 1 is detachably fitted, a housing 5 fitted in hanger bolts 3 protrusively provided downward from the ceiling with nuts 11 and equipped with a wiring for supplying power to the electrodeless discharge lamp 1, a lid 15 for closing an opening 13 provided for conducting a wiring operation and a nut-fitting operation inside from a side of the housing 5, a lighting unit 31 fixed or connected to the lid 15 and including a lighting circuit connected to the wiring within the housing 5 to generate power for power supply, and a lighting unit-transferring mechanism (an L-shaped aluminum plate 19, a supporting plate 33, a connecting mechanism 40, etc.), for transferring the lighting unit 31 through the opening 13 with the opening and closing of the lid 15.
