PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for cooling a steel and method using the same system capable of performing a uniform cooling even if the conveyance speed is different in a perforated-plate cooling system having a high cooling capacity. SOLUTION: The cooling system 1 has a large number of jet nozzle apertures 3 to spray a cooling medium against the steel stock 11, and is installed in parallel with the conveyance direction of the steel 11 in a manufacturing line of the steel stock 11. A row of nozzles in the conveyance direction of the steel 11 of the cooling system 1 is arranged obliquely to the conveyance direction or is so arranged that projected portions of the neighboring jet nozzle apertures 3 overlap each other.
