Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting apparatus and a detecting method for sentinel lymph node by which the accurate location of a sentinel lymph node can be identified, and burden to a patient receiving a celiotomy, or the like, can be reduced as well. SOLUTION: The sentinel lymph node-detecting device 1 is constituted of an endoscope 2, a CCU 3 for visible rays and a CCU 4 for infrared rays which are freely detachably connected with the endoscope 2, a superimposing circuit 5 which performs superimposing by superposing an image output from the CCU 4 for infrared rays on an image output from the CCU 3 for visible rays, a monitor 6 for displaying the image which is superimposed by the superimposing circuit 5, and a variable magnetic field-generating device 9 for generating a variable magnetic field for shaking a magnetic fluid 8 as a tracer which is made to reside in the sentinel lymph node 7 in advance, and heating the magnetic fluid 8. Then, an endoscopic infrared image for which an infrared pseudo color image obtained by being picked up by an infrared sensor is superposed on an endoscopic image obtained by being picked up by a CCD 12 for visible rays is displayed on a display screen of the monitor 6.
