Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an extra-fine carbon fiber felt with high uniformity. SOLUTION: The carbon fiber felt is produced by spraying extra-fine carbon fibers with a binder resin solution through a single-fluid nozzle. In the above process, it is allowed that, while feeding a wool collecting section 3 with an extra-fine carbon fiber assembly after disaggregated and spraying the wool collecting section 3 with the binder resin solution using a sprayer 7 having a single-fluid nozzle, the disaggregated carbon fibers are accumulated in a wool fashion. The spraying pressure of the binder resin solution may be about 100-1,000 kPa (especially 300-900 kPa). The mean droplet diameter of the binder resin spray fluid is about 20-40 μm. The mean fiber diameter of the extra-fine carbon fibers is about 0.3-10 μm (especially 0.5-5 μm). The extra-fine carbon fibers may be made of anisotropic pitch-based carbon fibers.
