PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving device which is for driving an active-driven type display elements of which the pixels are formed of a plurality of sub-pixels and is capable of suppressing decrease in display quality caused by dispersion of the display element characteristics and increase in the circuit scale of which is avoided, and to provide a display device using the same. SOLUTION: The driving device which has at least one pixel part 13 provided with pixels formed of light-modulation elements and active elements for drive- controlling the pixels, and is for driving the active-driven type display elements of which the above pixels are formed of 1st sub-pixels 11 and 2nd sub-pixels 10, is provided with a 1st sub-pixel control means for drive-controlling the 1st sub-pixels 11 so that they display multiple gradations including half-tone, and a 2nd sub-pixel control means for drive-controlling the 2nd sub-pixels 10 so that they perform binary display of light display or dark display.
