Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively detect an isomer with high correlation with dioxins from among precursors of the dioxins. SOLUTION: The detection device 100 for this chemical substance with a vacuum ultraviolet light lamp 3 ionizes TCB of the precursor of the dioxins in an exhaust gas Gs with this vacuum ultraviolet light lamp 3. Then a TCB ion is fragmentized by providing energy to the TCB ion with a TICKLE waveform having a frequency component corresponding to the orbit resonance frequency of the TCB ion. Thereafter, the mass of a fragment thereof is measured with a mass spectrometer 4 and a fragment pattern is determined. The isomer concentration of the TCB contained in the exhaust gas Gs is determined with mathematical calculation based on the predetermined fragment pattern of the TCB, by utilizing that the fragment pattern is different by the isomer when the isomer of the TCB is fragmentized.
