Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a distribution feedback type solid coloring matter variable wavelength laser that has a simple configuration and can be easily operated. SOLUTION: The variable wavelength solid coloring matter laser apparatus has a beam formation optical system comprising a solid coloring matter laser chip 1 for forming diffraction gratings having different pitches on each surface of a plurality of stripe type waveguides 1n doped with a coloring matter and for radiating light having a wavelength corresponding to the pitch by laser excitation along a stripe, a selection positioning mechanism 2 for aligning laser beams for excitation to a selected stripe, and a beam expander 6 for setting collimate beams to fan-like beams spread in a horizontal direction and a columnar leans 7 for equally setting a beam width as the stripe with by narrowing down the collimate beam in upper and lower directions. The beam formation optical system is an adjustment mechanism where beams applied to the stripe efficiently overlap with the stripe. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
