Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel water gate system utilizing a bridge by constructing the gate system of which the gate strength sufficiently withstands external forces such as high waves, stunami waves, etc. SOLUTION: The water gate system opens/closes a water channel S under the main girder 2 of a bridge B having the main girder 2 erected between a pair of bridge piers 1, 1. The gate system is provided with a transferable gate 10 moving to a shutting position Rs where the gate advances from the outside of the bridge pier 1 into the water channel and shuts the water channel S and an opening position Ro where the gate retreats to the outside of the bridge pier 1 to open the water channel S and a dock 20 having an opening which the gate provided under a stringer 3 gets into or out of and containing the gate 10 at the opening position So. The main girder 2 can be lowered from a stationary position Ta to the lowered position Tc wherein the gate is pressed by applying the load of the main girder 2 on the gate 10 at the shutting position Rs.
