Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid cooling of an internal combustion engine from being obstructed, to reduce generation of a scale and to realize miniaturization and weight reduction in a device for generating fresh water from seawater using a jacket cooling water for cooling the shipboard internal combustion engine as a source of heat. SOLUTION: A first plate type heat exchanger 8 and a second plate type heat exchanger 9 are provided in a circulation passage 2 of the jacket cooling water in series. The jacket cooling water is cooled in the first plate type heat exchanger with seawater for cooling from a pipeline 10. Seawater for generating fresh water from a pipeline 12 is heated in the second plate type heat exchanger 9, inducted to an evaporator 1 kept at a reduced pressure, and boiled and vaporized.
