Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the circuit constant of an excitation circuit in accordance with the state of a discharge lamp. SOLUTION: The excitation circuit 31 performs discharge lamp excitation for the excitation of atoms. An activation voltage monitor part 32a monitors an activation voltage of the excitation circuit 31 and generates voltage monitor signals. A light quantity monitor part 32b monitors a light quantity before lighting the discharge lamp Lp and at the time of holding lighting from resonance signals and generates light quantity monitor signals. A bias voltage selection part 32c selects a bias voltage on the basis of the voltage monitor signals and the light quantity monitor signals and applies the selected bias voltage to the excitation circuit 31.
