PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color composition having excellent color characteristics, particularly high transparency and therefore, forming a color filter with high lightness, and to provide a color filter with high color characteristics. SOLUTION: The composition contains a coloring material carrier comprising a transparent resin, its precursor or a mixture of these, and a specified isoindoline pigment, for example, C.I.Pigment Yellow 185 dispersed in the coloring material carrier. The isoindoline pigment shows such spectral characteristics that when a yellow composition prepared by dispersing the pigment in the carrier is applied to form a coating film having 1% spectral transmittance at 435 nm, the spectral transmittance of the coating film is ≤3% at 475 nm and ≥80% at 505 nm.
